Introduction:
Red eye, Longish tail, yellow-green wings and neck, white throat and belly, lemon yellow chest. Our Eastern Cape birds lack the black spot on the chest that is present on the northern subspecies.
Habitat:
Valley bushveld, scrub, forest edge and clearings.
Distribution:
Found mainly along the coastal areas of the Eastern Cape.
Diet:
Insects, nectar, fruit.
Behaviour:
A rather active little bird, occurring in pairs or small groups. They are often seen working their way around a tree or shrub, flitting in and out, balancing and hanging in all sorts of positions.
Nesting:
Nest constructed of lichens, mosses or “old man’s beard”, with top-side entrance.
